RUSH, NY – January 8, 2016 – iuvo BioScience, LLC, announced that it has received an updated Full Accreditation for iuvo’s vivarium from AAALAC International (the Council on Accreditation of the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care), following the Company’s recent AAALAC audit. The vivarium, which was also operated by iuvo’s predecessors including Moog and Ethox, has been continually accredited with AAALAC since 1986.
“iuvo is committed to maintaining the highest levels of animal care and welfare, and we take this commitment very seriously,” said Dr. Mary Richardson, iuvo’s Chief Scientific Officer. She added that, in addition to AAALAC accreditation, the Company’s vivarium is fully compliant with all USDA and New York State Department of Health animal regulations.
Donna Ventura, Director of iuvo’s Toxicology Department, also acknowledged strong partnerships were instrumental in maintaining excellence in this area. “We have benefited from an outstanding collaboration with the University of Rochester since 1986. They provide veterinary and emergency services to support our vivarium, and participate on our Animal Care and Use Committee,” Ms. Ventura explained. “Their involvement and support has been instrumental in helping us to maintain the high standards of animal care that we insist upon.”
The AAALAC letter praised the Company’s vivarium program, stating, “Especially noteworthy were the strong institutional commitment to the program, evidenced by the outstanding condition of the physical plant, the maintenance of active GLP and ISO adherent research practices, and the comprehensive training program for all personnel; the very active and engaged Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee; and the dedication and professionalism of the animal program staff members.”
Ben Burton, iuvo’s CEO, added, “Our vivarium is at the heart of many of our offerings, and a key piece of our strategic focus as we look to expand our services and offerings in the coming year.”
